October 2004 Archives
Yesterday I saw an opportunity for a good photo when Zoe fell asleep on the couch in her princess ballerina dress. I came up with a pretty good photo.
After considering the composition of the photo, I realized that the right side of the couch has nothing interesting happening. I put a baby there and took another photo with better results.
The lesson to be learned here is that if there is an empty spot in your photo put a baby in it.
Zoe got teary when I pointed it out to her. She said "I liked you just how you were". When I asked if she likes me like this too, she said no.
I didn't have to point it out to Sarah. There was no hiding it from her. She knew what I did as soon as she saw me. She took one look at me and asked why I did it.
Ava was polite about it. She didn't say anything, but I did catch a few disapproving looks from her at dinner.
My only excuse is that I hate having snot in my mustache.
This afternoon's family walk took us to the front yard of some neighbors selling rat terrier puppies. Having a four-year-old, a baby and some extra time, the decission to stop and see the puppies was easy.
I'm not a dog aficionado, so I don't know much about the different breeds. Today I learned that rat terrior puppies are much cuter than the word "rat" in their name conotes. The girls seemed to agree.
Ava went bonkers. She clapped. She shrieked. She said "dah" for dog and "woof" - which sounds like "ffffff" to the untrained ear that hasn't read Puppies at Play with her.
We spent about 15 minutes with the puppies, and Ava's enthusiasm didn't wane at all. We didn't discuss it, but both Sarah and I realized that if we spent much longer there we would end up taking a dog home with us.
