We went to the Trail of Lights with two of Zoe's friends from school. While we were downtown, they were excited to see the capitol building, and they kept referring to it as "our capitol". I usually say "the capitol" and hearing five-year-olds referring to the capitol building as theirs reminded me of childhood civics lessons. I pointed out to their mother that they are already becoming civic minded Texas residents. She said that she had never thought to call it anything but "our capitol".
Animal control wasn't interested in removing the corpse after all. I put off the task until yesterday. With all the dignity I could afford such a graceful and beautiful bird of prey I scooped the corpse up in a shovel and flung it over the fence into the creek. One last flight for the hawk who watched over our yard for these five years of living on Broadmeade.
On the up side, we saw another red tail hawk in the back yard a few days ago. I don't know if our back yard hawk is the dead one or the living one. Maybe we've had two all along.
My doctor has an appointment to see me at 8:30 on Friday morning. I only ever look at my calendar after I get to work, so I'm afraid I won't remember until it's too late. I'm telling everybody about this appointment in hopes that it will help me remember.
UPDATE: Thank you all for your support. I remembered the appointment, and was there on time. So was the good doctor.
Austin's FM 103.5 - formerly known as Key 103 - has been rebranded as Bob FM with the tag lines "Bob Plays Anything" and "80's, 90's and whatever". That branding sounded like a cookie-cutter satellite station, so I googled "bob fm" and found 93.7 Bob FM, 93.9 Bob FM, 95.7 Bob FM, etc. They all have the same graphics on their web sites.
The funny part is that the promos for Bob FM all portray the station as owned by a mavrick named Bob who just wants to hear some good songs on the radio.
I particularly like this bit from 99.9 Bob FM in Winnepeg.
BOB-FM is a friendly, relaxed, regular kind of guy. A guy you can get to know, hang out with, spend time with and have FUN with. He’ll play your favorite music from the 80’s…the 90’s… & WHATEVER!
Playing favorite artists like The Pretenders, John Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, Smashmouth, Elton John, The Police, Richard Marx and the Spin Doctors, BOB-FM appeals to the 35-54 adult population of Winnipeg.
And this from 102.3 Bob FM.
BOB is your laid-back, relaxed, friendly, regular kind of guy who lives next door to you. On the weekend, he plays his favourite music from the "80's, 90's...And Whatever" on his CD player and even his turntable. BOB's easy to get to know and it's fun to spend time with him.
On 102.3 BOB-FM, you'll hear all the great songs by favourite artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Smashmouth, Elton John, The Eagles, John Mellencamp, and The Pretenders.
If you're between the ages of 25 and 54, there's a very good chance you know BOB and can call him a very good friend of yours.

Tomorrow I get to remove a hawk's carcass from my back yard. Picking up a dead blue jay here and there doesn't bother me, but I'm not looking forward to dealing with these particular remains.
UPDATE: I called animal control. They said I shouldn't dispose of the hawk until they come look at it, so the dead bird of prey remains in my yard.
I enjoyed listening to this commentary on NPR yesterday.
I just read that toll house cookies are so named because they were first introduced at a restaurant in a converted toll house. In related news, I ate a very good toll house cookie for dessert tonight.
