At least it was the best sequel to a Disney teen musical that I have seen so far this summer. Zoe was entranced by it - only breaking out of her trance long enough to sing along with the musical numbers. Ava even did an incredible dance for us. Ironically she was dancing to "I don't dance" which is only somewhat similar to Genesis' "I can't dance". I hope she'll do that dance for us again so I can tape it.

Tonight is the big night: High School Musical 2

I'm counting the hours until the big debut of High School Musical 2. Zoe and I have been rocking out to the sound track all week. Memorizing lyrics and making up dance steps. We are PUMPED UP!!!!!!

Sure, we could have downloaded a copy last weekend, but this is a big deal. I want to make sure we do it right.

Don't call me between 7:00 and 9:00 tonight. I won't answer.

oops it's DDR

Today is Zoe's birthday - she's 6. Yesterday I took the afternoon off and gave her DDR Extreme 2* as an early birthday present. She likes it a lot. She played it for about two hours. Unfortunately she only danced to one song during the whole two hours, so I had to listen to "Oops I did it again" about 30 times yesterday. Zoe doesn't understand the words, so when she sings along she sings "Oops I did it again. A one and a one. A two and a two."

On the radio this morning I heard civil servant Donna Howard utter this phrase; "The vast majority of school administrators do their jobs extraordinarily well." If the vast majority of administrators are doing it, then it is, by definition, ordinary.

This self-contradicting statement cannot be allowed in public discourse.

First Piano Lesson

I taught Zoe her first piano lesson today. It was simple. I told her the first and most important thing to learn in piano lessons is how to have fun playing the piano. If she doesn't enjoy playing piano, she shouldn't do it.

I've hesitated to teach her piano because I don't want to force it on her too young, but I can't delay it any longer. She is begging to learn how to read music. She figured out where middle C was because it is marked with a "c3" on our keyboard. Then she played a crude version of "The Wind Cries Mary" (midi) for me. She didn't know what she was playing, but it happened to be on the music stand at the time, and she was excited to have any music to play.

Her hand is too small to learn correct fingering. I'm not sure whether to teach her fingering at all or just let her be happy to pick out melodies with her index fingers.

This week my company moved to a new office. Now I have a cubicle with a window. At 4:20 every day, the earth reaches a position relative to the sun that causes sunlight to hit my eyes and my monitors. That is my signal that it is time to go home.

Maybe I'll photograph my new cubicle so my loyal readers can see where I spend most of the daylight hours.
